DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

The Department was established in 1993. It has a group of faculty members who are highly dedicated to their research and teaching activities. Right from the date of inception, the department has been making sustained efforts to produce students of international standard. It is evident from the fact that the majority of the M. Sc. students who have passed so far has been absorbed / engaged in regular services and / or research activities in various reputed institutions like ICGEB, NII, CDRI, JNU, pharmaceuticals companies & medical colleges. The department has well equipped laboratories with sophisticated instruments like spectropolarimeter, spectrofluorimeter, double beam UV-VIS spectrophotometer, Gas liquid chromatograph, Biorad electrophoresis system, iso-electric focusing system and protein purification system. The department is supported by DST-FIST and UGC- Special assistance programme at DRS level and other major funding agencies are DST, UPCST and UPCAR.

Biotechnology one of the applied subject of science which has wide ranging applications in the fields of Agriculture, Health & Medicines, Genetic Engineering and Food Technology, related human welfare. The knowledge acquired by the students in this discipline will be useful in the professional placement.

Eligibility of Applicants for Admission Test / Admission

For M. Sc. Biochemistry:

B.Sc. in any discipline of Life Sciences with Chemistry or Biochemistry as a subject.

For M. Sc. Biotechnology:

The candidate should have B.Sc. degree with 50% marks from recognized University (45% for OBC/SC/ST candidates).

Mode of Admission Test

For M. Sc. Biochemistry:

Question paper for admission test would be objective type multiple choice questions with negative marking would be asked Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and modern disciplines of Biology such as Molecular Biology and Biochemistry of B.Sc. syllabus. The duration of test will be of two hours.

For M. Sc. Biotechnology:

Admission will be through admission test (based on B.Sc. courses) / Merit. The admission test questions shall be objective type, multiple choices with negative marking.
